On 7 May 2026, ZRST paid a courtesy call on Professor Ackim Zulu, Dean of the School of Engineering at the University of Zambia, to formalise the hosting arrangements for the 3rd AfroSAFE Academy International Conference. Prof. Zulu’s entire team was present. The meeting was direct and practical, covering everything we needed.
Every operational point on ZRST’s agenda was agreed. The School of Engineering at UNZA is now confirmed as the official conference venue for 8 to 12 June 2026.
This took weeks of groundwork to get to, and it matters. The AfroSAFE Academy 2026, co-organised by ZRST, the University of Zambia, and the International Co-operation on Theories and Concepts in Traffic Safety (ICTCT), is not a small event. It brings together road safety researchers, transport engineers, government officials, and development partners from across Africa, Europe, and North America. Faculty are coming from Lund University, Delft University of Technology, VTI Sweden, Autoliv, the University of Cape Town, and the University of Alabama. The School of Engineering is where this conversation belongs.
What was agreed
The discussion covered venue allocation across all five conference days, AV and technical provision, catering access, delegate logistics, and the co-organiser relationship between UNZA and ZRST. Nothing was left vague. Names and responsibilities were attached to each item before the meeting closed.
Daniel Mwamba, ZRST Executive Director, said: “Prof. Zulu and his team were straightforward and generous. We came with a detailed list of requirements. They went through it item by item and said yes. That is exactly the kind of institutional partnership this conference needs.”
Thirty-one days out
With the UNZA meeting now behind us, attention shifts to the operational phase: finalising room allocations, confirming AV and Wi-Fi across all venues, and preparing for an expected 100 to 150 international and regional delegates.
Registration remains open until 31 May 2026. Details at: ictct.net/afrosafe-conference/2026-zambia/
