December 28, 2025 – The Zambia Police Service in Lusaka recorded a fatal road traffic accident in which one person died while six others sustained serious injuries.
The accident occurred on December 27, 2025, around 17:00 hours along 55 Road in Garden House residential area, Lusaka West.
The accident involved a Toyota Hino Ranger Light Truck, registration number ALJ 3049, driven by Dalitso Zulu, a 27-year-old male of Garden House, and a Toyota Funcargo, registration number BAF 5249, driven by Deluxe Kapelabulungu, a 30-year-old male of Kanyama West, Lusaka, which was moving in the opposite direction.
Both drivers sustained serious injuries and are admitted to Kanyama Level One Hospital.
An unidentified female adult sustained multiple injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH). Her body has been deposited at UTH Mortuary, awaiting identification and postmortem examination.
Four unidentified adult pedestrians also sustained serious injuries and are admitted to Kanyama Level One Hospital.
Both motor vehicles were extensively damaged.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident occurred when the driver of the Toyota Hino Ranger Light Truck, due to excessive speed, hit a speed hump and lost control. The vehicle swerved into the opposite lane, collided with the oncoming Toyota Funcargo, and hit the pedestrians.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
The Zambia Police Service urges motorists to drive carefully, obey speed limits, and always prioritise the safety of pedestrians and other road users.
