Today, at Twashuka Primary School, We Officially Launched the VIA Educational Programme for Safe Mobility
With the generous support of the TotalEnergies Foundation, the Zambia Road Safety Trust (ZRST) proudly launched the VIA Educational Programme for Safe Mobility at Twashuka Primary School. This transformative initiative will reach over 20,000 pupils across 10 schools, equipping them not only with knowledge about road safety, but with the leadership skills to champion it in their communities.
The programme introduces a dynamic approach to road safety education integrating classroom training, awareness campaigns, risk-mapping exercises, and peer-led advocacy. Through these activities, pupils are stepping forward as ambassadors of safe mobility, playing a central role in promoting a culture of responsibility and protection in and around their schools.
Our Guest of Honour, Eng. Allen Mate, Chairperson of the Road Transport and Safety Agency (Ask RTSA) Board, emphasized the collective nature of the road safety mission, stating, “Road safety is a shared responsibility. Young people must be empowered not just to follow the rules, but to hold decision-makers accountable.”
Ms. Salamata Ball, Managing Director of TotalEnergies Marketing Zambia, delivered a powerful message of inclusion and hope, declaring, “Every young person deserves the right to travel safely and responsibly.”
ZRST Executive Director, Mr. Daniel Mwamba, reflected on the broader significance of the initiative: “This is not just a road safety programme, it is a youth empowerment initiative. We believe in the power of young people to reshape how our communities think about mobility, safety, and responsibility.”
This launch marks the beginning of a nationwide movement, where young learners rise as protectors of their own futures, lighting the path toward safer, more inclusive mobility for all.
