First Aid for All: Prudential Life Assurance Zambia and Partners Launch Innovative Road Safety Initiative

Prudential Life Assurance Zambia, the Zambia Road Safety Trust (ZRST) in collaboration with Lusaka City Council and FIREBRIGADE led by Mr Sakala Francis, with support from the Prudence Foundation Safe Steps Africa, launched the FIRST AID AT AN ACCIDENT SCENE AWARENESS PROGRAMME initiative at Lusaka’s Intercity Bus Terminus. This life-saving program aims to build a network of community-based first responders by equipping bus passengers, drivers, vendors, and local residents with essential first aid skills to effectively assist victims of road traffic crashes in critical situations.Over 500 individuals were trained and sensitized in essential first aid, prehospital care techniques, and basic traffic management control, to act swiftly in the critical moments following a crash.

Speaking at the launch, ZRST Executive Director Mr. Daniel Mwamba emphasized, By training bus passenger, we create a network of first responders embedded in our communities, ready to act when seconds count. He further highlighted the initiative’s broader vision, stating, Together, with the First Aid Training for Passengers Project, we are not just responding to crashes-we are preventing tragedies and building a nation of healthier, more resilient people. Intercity Bus Terminus Manager madam Annie Shikabonga-Katuta praised the initiative and project teams, noting,

This training is a significant step toward enhancing safety and empowering our passengers to save lives on their daily journeys before professional help reach the scene.
