Africa Worxconnect employees complete defensive driving training with ZRST

Blog · Media

Three Africa Worxconnect employees completed a half-day defensive driving course with the Zambia Road Safety Trust on Tuesday, 6 October 2026, at our office in Woodlands, Lusaka. The course combined classroom learning with supervised driving, and each participant received a Certificate of Participation.

A website enquiry became a training day

Africa Worxconnect found the course through the ZRST website and contacted us to arrange training. The three employees hold Category B licences and drive light vehicles for work in and around Lusaka.

For ZRST, the enquiry is a practical example of why clear public information matters. A company without a previous relationship with us could find the course, ask about it and arrange a session for its staff.

Working through the pressures drivers face

The morning began with licence and baseline checks. Participants then explored why drivers can take risks even when they know the rules. The discussion covered fatigue, distraction, stress, time pressure and the influence of other road users.

Three scenarios brought those issues into the workplace: an urgent call from a supervisor, a long day extending into dusk, and a minibus cutting into a driver’s lane. Each gave participants a chance to consider how they would respond before facing the same pressure on the road.

The classroom module also covered hazard perception, speed choice, following distance, lane discipline and pre-trip vehicle checks. During the supervised practical drive, participants worked with a facilitator on observation, anticipation, road positioning and commentary driving.

At the debrief, each driver wrote down one specific change they could put into practice. The day closed with evaluation forms and the certificate handover.

The client’s feedback

Speaking after the certificate ceremony, Mr Nasilele Kasimona of Africa Worxconnect described the experience:

“We really enjoyed our experience here. We have learned something very, very beneficial today.”

He also confirmed that an internet search had brought the company to ZRST and encouraged us to keep sharing our work through social media.

What this course demonstrates

The course record documents attendance, delivery and certificates, alongside positive client feedback. Those are useful records of the day. They do not establish a sustained change in driving behaviour or a reduction in crashes.

Training is one part of safer work driving. Employers also need to examine schedules, vehicle condition, fatigue and the expectations supervisors place on staff. A driver should not have to choose between meeting a deadline and driving safely.

Arrange defensive driving training

ZRST offers defensive driving training for employees who drive for work, with classroom learning and supervised practical driving. Employers can discuss group size, venue and the needs of their drivers with our team.
