On 9th July 2025, the Zambia Road Safety Trust (ZRST), with support from the Prudence Foundation Safe Steps Africa programme, hosted an important workshop at the ZRST offices in Woodlands Extension under the project titled “Training the Immediate Bystanders.”
The initiative is designed to empower ordinary citizens with essential life-saving skills, enabling them to respond effectively to road traffic accidents through first aid, basic extrication techniques, and emergency response procedures.
Key stakeholders in attendance included Mr. Francis Sakala from the Zambia Fire Brigade; Mr. Chipoya Chipoya and Mr. Emmanuel Jonga from Levy Mwanawasa Medical University; Mr. Aaron Kamuti, President of the Commuters Rights Association of Zambia (CRAZ) ; Ms. Brenda Mwasaniga, Observer from CRAZ; and the ZRST implementation team.
The event underscored the vital role trained bystanders play in reducing road crash fatalities through timely intervention, representing a significant step forward in the journey toward safer roads in Zambia.
