ZRST’s Commitment to Safer Spaces for Women and Girls

On November 25th, 2024, the Zambia Road Safety Trust (ZRST) proudly participated in the launch of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) at the Mulungushi International Conference Center in Lusaka. Organized by the Cabinet Office: Gender Division, the event carried the theme, “Towards Beijing +30: Unite to End Violence Against Women and Girls.” ZRST joined this global movement, reinforcing our commitment to creating safer public transport for women and girls.

ZRST’s involvement stems from our ongoing efforts to combat sexual harassment on public transport. Through our campaigns and initiatives like the SHE CAN Tool, we advocate for safe journeys free from harassment. We believe every woman and girl deserves to travel without fear, and we are working towards a future where this is a reality.
The event was highlighted by a powerful speech from President Hakainde Hichilema, who reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fighting GBV and called for men and boys to take leadership roles. Key figures such as Mrs. Mainga Kabika, Beauty Katebe, and Beatrice Mutali emphasized the need for collective action in ending GBV.
The day’s activities also included a drama performance and moving musical acts by B-Flow, Kantu, and Nyarai, who amplified the call to end GBV through their art.
At ZRST, we believe that ending GBV requires the collective efforts of governments, organizations, and individuals. We remain committed to ensuring that every woman and girl can travel safely, live freely, and enjoy a life free from violence. Together, we can create a world where safer journeys are a reality for all.
Let’s unite to make every journey safe.
