On 27 March 2025, the Zambia Road Safety Trust (ZRST) officially launched the Road Traffic Victims Fund (RTVF) under the theme “Keep Hope Alive” during a press briefing held in Lusaka. The Fund will be formally operationalised through a fundraising gala scheduled for 13 June 2025, and is designed to provide much-needed support to victims of road traffic crashes while stimulating a broader national dialogue on road safety and victim support.
The launch brought together key stakeholders from government, local authorities, health services, law enforcement, and development partners, reflecting a shared commitment to improving post-crash care and road safety outcomes in Zambia.
Key highlights and statements included:
- Mr. Daniel Mwamba, Chairperson of ZRST (represented by Mr. Thomas Miyoba), emphasized the importance of the RTVF in restoring dignity, hope, and support to road traffic crash victims and their families.
- Eng. Liftery Ndaba, Lusaka Town Clerk, reaffirmed the Lusaka City Council’s full support for the initiative and its objectives.
- Ms. Nzeba Chanda, University Teaching Hospital (UTH), underscored the life-saving importance of timely and sustained support for road traffic injury victims.

The upcoming Road Traffic Victims Fundraising Gala will play a critical role in mobilising sustainable resources to support victims, strengthen post-crash response, and raise public awareness on the human and socio-economic costs of road traffic crashes.
Call to Action
ZRST calls upon individuals, businesses, policymakers, and development partners to support the Road Traffic Victims Fund. Contributions—whether financial, technical, or legislative—are vital in restoring lives, strengthening systems, and ensuring that no victim suffers in silence.
Today, we reaffirm our commitment:
No victim should feel abandoned.
No family should suffer alone.
No life should be lost needlessly on our roads.
Together, let us keep hope alive.
