FIVE people have died on the spot in Rufunsa when a vehicle they were travelling in hit into a truck after overtaking a minibus.
Rufunsa district commissioner Paul Kasongo said the accident involveda Lusa ka bound Toyota Voltz, registration number ALH 4511 which was coming from Chipata.
He named the victims as Teddy Sinkamba, 36, Julius Mbewe, 35, both of Chipata.
Kasongo named other victims as Wellington Kasonde, 45, of Lusaka, Precious Mafuta, 25, while the 5th victim had not yet been identified by press time.
He said the accident occurred at a place called Mulamba this morning.
“What happened is that this vehicle in question overtook a minibus and I don’t know what happened but it went to hit into a truck which was ahead of the minibus. All the five who were on this Toyota Voltz died on the spot,” Kasongo said.
Kasongo said the bodies were taken to Chongwe Hospital since Rufunsa had no facilities to cater for such a big number of people.
“Let me appeal to motorists, Rufunsa is almost becoming a death trap and most of the accidents occurred due to human error. May I appeal to drivers that as they start off from Chipata or elsewhere, they should
know that Rufunsa has a longest stretch of land,” he said.
Kasongo urged drivers to take some rest when they were tired.
