COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS FOR CYCLING AND PEDESTRIAN SAFETY IN ZAMBIA

On 28 February 2024, the Zambia Road Safety Trust engaged in a meeting with Kalingalinga Ward 36 Councilor Mukubesa Nyoni, representing the Lusaka Mayor Madam Chilando Chitangala, and officials from the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA). The discussion focused on the development of the Cycling and Pedestrian Safety Policy.

Mr. Nyoni conveyed the mayor’s message, emphasizing the policy’s aim to decrease environmental impact. She further added that by promoting cycling and walking, “we provide our citizens with the much needed accessible means of exercise and improving cardiovascular health, mental wellbeing and also the overall quality of life. She encouraged everyone to embrace this journey, recognizing the transformative power of simple acts – a stroll in the park, a ride on a bicycle, in transforming the future of our communities.

The Zambia Road Safety Trust Chairman, Mr. Daniel Mwamba, commended Lusaka City Council for the initiative, anticipating it as a practical approach for the road transport and safety agency to address pedestrian safety challenges.
