CELEBRATING THE SUCCESS OF THE BE ROAD SAFE AFRICA CAMPAIGN: AWARD CEREMONY AT LIBALA PRIMARY SCHOOL

Puma Energy Zambia, in partnership with the Zambia Road Safety Trust (ZRST) and Amend, celebrated the success of the Be Road Safe Africa campaign with an Award Ceremony at Libala Primary School yesterday. Various road safety activities including road safety education, a drawing competition, a road safety club and a Kids’ Court programme have been implemented as part of this initiative.

During the Award Ceremony, participants in the art competition were recognized with outstanding gifts. The top ten participants received cash rewards, certificates, trophies and books. The young artist, a talented 10-year-old who earned the first runner-up position, was awarded K5000. The second-place winner received K2,500 and the third-place winner received K1,250. Additionally, Libala Primary School, which is the school of the overall runner-up, was awarded ZMW50,000.

Key stakeholders present included Mr. Litiya Matakala, Head of Government Relations from Puma Energy Zambia, Eng. Allen Mate, Board Chairman of the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA), Mr. Daniel Mwamba, Chairman of the Zambia Road Safety Trust, Neema Swaii from Amend, Mrs. Esnart Mwanza from the District Education Board (DEBS), and Mr. Abraham Kashimba from Zambia Police. The Guest of Honour was Her Worship the Mayor of Lusaka City, Madam Chilando Chitangala. The ceremony highlighted the efforts to raise road safety awareness among children at the five selected high-risk primary schools in Lusaka.

In addition, as part of campaign, a road safety club was also established at Mambilima Primary School. The club members, along with their patron, visited RTSA’s road safety school park in Silverest to receive comprehensive road safety education. This activity, supported by RTSA, included both theoretical instruction and practical lessons, enhancing the students’ understanding and awareness of road safety.
