TotalEnergies Marketing Zambia Ltd in collaboration with the Zambia Road Safety Trust (ZRST) and TotalEnergies Foundations, successfully hosted the 2025 VIA Safe Mobility for All Young People Zambia National Finals yesterday at the Government Complex in Lusaka. This event celebrated the creative and innovative efforts of young Zambians dedicated to promoting sustainable mobility and road safety.
The VIA Program, a global initiative developed by the TotalEnergies Foundation and Michelin Foundation, aims to empower school going children with essential knowledge to recognize road hazards, adopt safe practices, and advocate for safer school environments.
This year, ten schools across Lusaka participated in the national finals, including David Kaunda STEM School, Chelstone, Chazanga, Nelson Mandela, Kamulanga Combined, Twin Palm, Woodlands βAβ, Twashuka, Mumana, and Kapwelyomba.
Chazanga Secondary School emerged victorious, receiving a β¬5,000 prize to enhance school safety measures around their school and the opportunity to represent Zambia at the VIA 6 Regional Finals Competition against South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda on December 2, 2025.
Ms. Salamata Ball, Managing Director of TotalEnergies Zambia, praised the initiative, stating,
βVIA empowers young people to lead and inspire safer communities.β
Echoing his sentiments, ZRST Executive Director Mr. Daniel Mwamba remarked,
βTraining youth leaders plants the seeds for lasting road safety.β
The event was honored by the presence of government officials, institutions, including the Ministry Of Education , the Zambia Police Service, represented by Superintendent Paul Siloka, the Road Transport and Safety Agency (Ask RTSA), Coalition Health Zambia along with Road Safety Ambassadors.
Also in attendance were various road safety NGOs, including People on the Move, Commuters Rights Association and Talk Road Safety whose continued advocacy and collaboration are essential for fostering a culture of safe mobility across Zambia.
Through this 20,000, schools have been directed on safe mobility practices and trained 200 Ambassadors as agents of change in their schools and communities.
