Accident, Injury and fatality Statistics

INTRODUCTION

Road deaths in Zambia have increased by 85% between 2012 to 2014 from 1, 000 to 1, 858 respectively.
Number of road traffic accidents increased by 48 percent from 19, 727 to 29, 118 from 2008 to 2013.
Accidents death rates per 100, 000 people increased by 31 % from 156 accidents deaths recorded per 100, 000 in 2008 to 205 accidents death recorded over 100, 000 in 2013
Accident rates increase at approximately 9% per year while the fatality rates increasing at approximately 10 percent per year.

Comparison between 2013 with 2014 statistics

In 2014 there were 32, 392 Road Accidents an increase of 3,274 from 2013.
In 2014 there were 1,858 Killed an increase of 7 from 2013.
In 2014 there were 5,371 Seriously injured (decrease of 118 from 2013)
In 2014 there were 7,706 Minor Injuries (an increase of 531 from 2013)
