LUSAKA: AS THE ZAMBIA ROAD SAFETY TRUST (ZRST) , WE ARE DEEPLY CONCERNED ABOUT THE PREVALENCE OF ACCIDENTS IN ZAMBIA AND STRONGLY FEEL THERE IS GREAT NEED TO INTERVENE AND STOP THE SCOURGE IF TRAVELLING HAS TO BE SAFE.

WE RAISE OUR CONCERN FOLLOWING THE LATEST GRISLY ROAD ACCIDENT ALONG MONZE/MAZABUKA ROAD THAT HAS CLAIMED OVER 15 LIVES AND LEFT SEVERAL OTHER PASSENGERS SERIOUSLY INJURED.

WE SHARE THE CONCERN THAT THE PATRIOTIC FRONT (PF) GOVERNMENT HAS RAISED REGARDING SAFETY ON OUR ROADS CONCERNING THE RECORD NUMBER OF CALAMITIES THE COUNTRY HAS EXPERIENCED IN RECENT TIMES.

WHILE SENDING OUR SYMPATHIES TO THE BEREAVED FAMILIES, WE WOULD LIKE TO ASCERTAIN OUR COMMITMENT AS A ROAD SAFETY ORGANISATION TO ADDRESS THE ISSUES OF ROAD ACCIDENTS BY ENGAGING ALL STAKEHOLDERS TO INVEST IN CAMPAIGNS AND ROAD SAFETY EDUCATION PROGRAMMES.  WE HAVE PROPOSED A PROGRAMME OF ACTIONS THAT INVOLVE WORKING WITH THE ZAMBIA POLICE, ROAD TRANSPORT SAFETY AGENCY, THE HOSPITALS AND OTHER STAKEHOLDERS INVOLVED IN MITIGATING ROAD ACCIDENTS AND THEIR CONSEQUENCES.

WE SHALL WORK WITH THE ZAMBIA POLICE, RTSA AND THE PUBLIC TO DESPATCH OUR TRAINED TEAMS WITH A GOAL OF ARRIVING AT THE ACCIDENT SCENE WITHIN AN HOUR. THROUGH OUR PARTNERS, WE SHALL INVEST IN FIRST-AID TRAINING OF 10,000 VOLUNTEERS, EFFECTIVE LIFE-SAVING PRODUCTS, COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS AND WELLSTOCKED EMERGENCY AMBULANCES.

FOR EACH AFFECTED FAMILY, EVERY ROAD DEATH IS ONE TOO MANY, AND WE WANT TO DO ALL WE CAN TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF TRAGEDIES EXPERIENCED ON ZAMBIAN ROADS EACH YEAR.

THE ZAMBIAN ROAD SAFETY TRUST BELIEVE THAT OPTIMUM CASUALTY REDUCTION CAN BEST BE ACHIEVED THROUGH WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH EVERYONE SHARING RESPONSIBILITY FOR ROAD SAFETY.
